Abstract
1425630 Valves E P SCRAGG 18 Dec 1973 [9 Jan 1973 25 May 1973] 58664/73 Heading F2V In a fluid flow control valve, downward movement of rod 48, Fig. 1, in direction of arrow "A" causes the rod to pivot about flexible diaphragm 36 and raise valve 24 off its seating. The rod and diaphragm are of integral construction and may be reinforced at 48 and C. Partition 18 defining the valve seating may be thin so as to flex on sudden valve closure to prevent water hammer. Alternatively, the seating may be formed by a plate held against the partition by a spring, Fig. 2 (not shown). The rod may be eccentrically connected to a diaphragm which is rotatable within the valve housing so that by rotating the diaphragm the rod is effectively raised and lowered to operate the valve, Fig. 1A (not shown). Stops are provided to limit the rotation of the diaphragm to 180 or 360 degrees. The valve may be included in a shower head having the rose (70), Fig. 3 (not shown), at its lower end. The valve head 78, Fig. 5, comprises a thin frusto-conical skirt 78.1 which is deformable by inlet pressure to compensate for any ovality in the seat. The valve head may be associated with an additional valve element 100 which is opened by a pin 98 slightly after head 78 to thereby reduce the opening force that would be required with a single head of the size of element 100. Fig. 6 shows the valve incorporated in a compressed air gun having a guard 108 and lever 110. Upward movement of the lever causes slight forward movement of the minor part of the lever and hence pivots the valve stem 84 about its diaphragm to open a valve 104.
