Abstract
1425132 Temporary yarn store K BOUS 27 March 1973 [28 March 1972 11 Aug 1972] 14733/73 Headings DID and D1F A device for the temporary storage of yarn passing continuously through a treatment installation comprises a yarn store arranged between yarn delivery and withdrawing mechanisms 2, 10, the yarn store comprising a yarn carrier 7 having a rotatable adhesion surface provided with resilient bristles 6, a delivery device 4 arranged to reciprocate across the adhesion surface in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of rotation to deposit an untreated yarn on the adhesion surface, and a yarn guide 8 positioned to remove yarn from the surface after being temporarily retained thereon. The adhesion surface may be provided on one face of a circular or annular plate rotatable about its axis, on the cylindrical surface of a drum or on a continuous belt. The bristles move apart as yarn is deposited on the surface and then spring back to trap the yarn between the bristles. The yarn carrier 7 and the adhesion surface 6 may be formed integrally from an elastic plastics material, or the yarn carrier may be formed of stainless steel. The delivery device 4 may be in the form of a fluid nozzle or a funnel-shaped thread guide. The speed of application of yarn, the speed of rotation of the carrier and the speed of yarn removal may be controlled to avoid overloading or underloading of the yarn store. The device may include yarn break or fault detectors and knotting devices. Tension control. In use of the device with variations in the tension of the yarn supply, the yarn passes over a fixed roller 69 and a movable roller 71 fixed to a lever 70. The lever 70 is pivotably mounted at 77 and the other end of the lever is spring biassed as at 82. With low tension, the roller 71 is in the position A' and the yarn is led over rollers 72, 73 of a slip supply system mounted on the lever 70. With increase in yarn tension the roller 71 is drawn towards rower 69 and the angle of contact with the rollers 72, 73 is reduced which leads to a reduction in the yarn speed. When the higher tension has been overcome, the lever returns to its original position. In the event of very high tension, the yarn comes out of contact with the rollers 72, 73. Provision may be made in this instance to stop the device. Open-end spinning. The device may be used in conjunction with an open-end spinning machine with means to remove yarn breaks. In the event of a yarn break being detected, the fluid flow to the applicator 177 ceases and the cylinder 175 activated to pivot the lever 169 whereby feed rollers 167, 168 are inoperative and feed rollers 172, 174 rotating in the opposite direction are operable to feed yarn from the store back into the rotor 161 to rejoin the yarn. End-catchers. In the event of a yarn fault being detected, the fault is cut out and the waste yarn removed by suction via the hollow shaft of cop supply, a suction nozzle also being provided to hold the cut ends of the yarn, Fig. 6 (not shown). In a further example the end catcher is in the form of a pivotable suction arm, Fig. 15 (not shown).
