Abstract

1425079 Flame retardant coating compositions CHEMISCHE FABRIK GRUNAU GmbH 28 Dec 1973 [7 May 1973] 60061/73 Heading B2E A fire retardant composition of low thermal conductivity, comprising 6 to 30% synthetic resin binder, 1.5 to 20% of a chlorinated hydrocarbon, 1.5 to 7.5 per cent plasticiser, 7.5 to 75% inorganic fibres, 5 to 30% of inorganic fillers, pigments or wetting agents and I to 20% antimony trioxide is coated onto one or both faces of a 3 to 6 cm thick mineral fibre panel used to pack openings in walls and ceilings. The coating may be applied at 1 to 4 kg per sq metre of panel surface. Suitable synthetic resin binders include polyvinyl acetate, methacrylate and acrylate resins, polyurethanes, epoxy resins or copolymers of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride. Suitable mineral fibres include glass fibre and asbestos. Suitable Chlorinated hydrocarbons are chlorinated paraffins, chlorinated napthalene, chlorinated terphenyl or mixtures thereof. The coating may include calcium carbonate, silicates, titanium dioxide or ferric oxide as fillers or pigments.
