Abstract

1424875 Electromagnetic flowmeters SYBRON CORP 2 May 1973 [19 June 1972] 20881/73 Heading G1N An electromagnetic flowmeter includes a ceramic tube e.g. of porcelain for location either within a pipe or between two sections of a pipe through which a conductive liquid flows, the ends of the tube including integral flange formations which do not interrupt the flow of liquid in the tube, magnetic field producing means being located in the space between the flanges and the outer surface of the tube. In one embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), and Fig. 3, the flanges 11, 12 are flared outwardly, the end edges of which are formed with a respective ledge 17, 22 for mounting a stainless steel strip which surrounds the tube for housing various components of the flowmeter. This type of flowmeter may either be located within a pipe of larger crosssection, e.g. a sewer, Fig. 1 (not shown), or located between two sections of a pipe, flanges on the pipe sections engaging flats 14, 19 on the flanges 11, 12, Fig. 7 (not shown). In a second embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5, and Fig. 6 (not shown), two flanges 111, 27 and 112, 29 are provided at each end of the tube 109, the flanges 111; 112 being provided with ledges 115, 120 for mounting a stainless steel strip 126, and the flanges 27, 29 being shaped to mount elastomeric cushions 31, 32 for coupling the tube between two sections of a pipe. The strip 126 surrounding the tube houses a pair of saddle-shaped coils 34, 35 clamped by a strap 36. The position of the coils is adjustable.
