Abstract

1424671 Filling gas storage vessels CRISPLANT AS 16 April 1973 [20 April 1972 2 Nov 1972] 18296/72 and 50565/72 Heading F4P Apparatus for charging a container 2 with liquefied gas, the container having a topmounted valve assembly 6, 8, comprises a bellshaped member 10 which is movable into sealing engagement with the top of the container and is provided with an actuator 18 to engage a valve control member 6 of the valve assembly and open the valve thereof, liquefied gas then being supplied via a line 26 and valve 28 to the bell-shaped member 10 until the container 2 is filled. After filling, actuator 18 closes the valve, and residual liquefied gas is drawn off via line 30 and non-return valve 34. As the bell is removed from container 2 any remaining gas is sucked off via line 36. The bell has a sealing lip 14 provided with annular grooves 40, and during filling is held in place by a support 12 which may incorporate a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder to secure the bell against the container. In a modification the bell is movably mounted in a yoke and is moved into engagement with a container by means of hydraulic fluid supplied by a hydro-pneumatic piston and cylinder via a non-return valve. The container may stand on a weighing device so that a prescribed weight of gas may be introduced therein.
