Abstract

1424545 Labelling device; tape dispensers CONSOLIDATED FOODS CORP 18 April 1973 [24 April 1972 14 Feb 1973] 18708/73 Headings B8F and B8M A labelling device in which a label tape 18 is drawn from a roll 16 includes a feed wheel 20 which has an internal ratchet surface, a pawl 36 engageable with successive ratchets to rotate the feed wheel 20 in an anticlockwise direction, and a pivotal member 30 having a protrusion 34 which engages the pawl to pivot it in response to movement of a trigger 28. The distance between the protrusion 34 and the pivot axis of the pivotal member 30 is no greater than the distance between the axis of rotation of the pawl 36 and the tip of the pawl. The feed wheel 20, pawl 36 and pivotal member may all rotate about a shaft 32 or the pawl may rotate about a boss 32a which is eccentric with respect to the centre of the shaft 32 about which the feed wheel and the pivotal member rotate. Engagement between indentations 42 along the lower edge of the trigger and a second pawl 46 which has a resilient tail 50, allows only full movement of the trigger between its released and fully depressed positions. An opening 44 at one end of the indentations 42 and a space at the other end permits pivotal movement of the second pawl 46 between actuating and return positions. A stamp 38 for the labels is also operated by the trigger 28 via the pivotal member 30. The labels are stripped from the label strip 18 as the backing strip 19 passes around a label separator 23.
