Abstract

1424034 Visually clear dentifrice COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 23 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973 (2)] 4335/73 and 4338/73 Heading A5B A visually clear dentifrice comprises up to 50 weight % of a dentally acceptable watersoluble or water-insoluble alkali metal phosphate polishing agent having a refractive index between 1.435 and 1.465 and a dentifrice gel vehicle comprising (1) at least 20% by weight of the dentifrice of a liquid phase including humectant, no free water, or insufficient free water to dissolve more than 30 weight % of the polishing agent at 40‹C and (2) from 0.5-10% by weight of a gelling agent, the refractive index of the gel vehicle being between 1.360 and 1.472 when the phosphate is water-soluble and between 1.458 and 1.463 when the phosphate is water-insoluble, the phosphate being homogeneously and invisibly distributed in the dentifrice gel vehicle. The composition may also include an antimicrobial agent. Ingredients specified include: phosphate polishing agents: potassium metaphosphate, sodium pyrophosphate decahydrate, mono and dibasic sodium orthophosphate, tribasic sodium phosphate dodecahydrate, humectants: sorbitol, glycerol, gelling agents: a synthetic inorganic silated clay, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, Irish moss, hydroxyethyl cellulose, antimicrobial agents: 1, 6-di-p-chlorophenylbiguanidohexane and 1, 6-bis (2-ethylhexylbiguanido) hexane; other ingredients: sodium N-lauroyl sarcosinate, sodium saccharine, colouring, flavouring, silica.
