Abstract
1423889 Reforming naphtha CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 26 Nov 1973 [14 Dec 1972] 54815/73 Heading C5E Naphtha feedstock containing 0À01 to 10 p.p.m. by weight sulphur is contacted with a catalyst comprising platinum and rhenium, on an inorganic refractory support at 800-1200‹ F. and from atmospheric pressure to 1000 p.s.i.g. and a hydrogen-rich gas is separated from the effluent, treated to reduce its hydrogen sulphide content to below 1 p.p.m. sulphur, and recycled to the reforming reaction. The hydrogen sulphide can be removed from the hydrogen - rich gas by contacting with a bed of metal oxide, e.g. of nickel oxide + molybdenum oxide, or of copper oxide + chromium oxide, which can be used as such or on an inert support. In examples a catalyst, containing 0À3% Pt, 0À3% Re, and 0À6-1À2% Cl on alumina, is used to reform a distillate which has been hydrofined to remove sulphur and nitrogen.
