Abstract

1423787 Cutting blocks FERRARI'S BAKERY Ltd 2 Nov 1973 51041/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division A4] Apparatus for cutting a rectangular slab of cake into smaller portions comprises a support table 2, a first rectilinear array 4 of parallel cutting wires extending upwardly from the table, through which a pusher 3 urges the cake from region 2C to region 2A, a second array of cutting wires 6 also extending upwardly from the table and aligned perpendicularly to the array 4, and through which a second pusher 18 urges the cake from region 2A off the table between rails 1A, 1B. The cutting wires may extend upwardly from below the surface of table 2 and are inclined at a slight angle to the vertical e.g. 5 degrees, with their upper ends closer to the pushers (see Fig. 3). First pusher 3 comprises a vertical plate having slots 3A to allow its projection through the array of wires 4 and mounted on upper and lower guides 12A, 12B guided in slots 10. The pusher 3 is moved by a pneumatic jack 8 having the bifurcated end of its piston-rod engaged with a lug 15 on guide member 12B. Pusher 18 comprises a vertical plate guided by rails 9 slidably mounted in a bearing housing 17 attached to the frame 1 and moved by a pneumatic jack 16, whose stroke is half that of jack 8, and whose cylinder is mounted on frame 1.
