Abstract

1423705 Compositions of rubbery materials; putty RHEIN-CHEMIE RHEINAU GmbH 10 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 22297/73 Headings C3N C3P and C3R Compositions of rubbery materials are prepared by first homogenizing (A) from 10 to 70 parts by weight of one or more of butyl rubber, EPDM, natural rubber, ABS rubber, polyacrylate rubber or factice, with (B) from 5 to 50 parts by weight of a filler which is one or more of silicon dioxide, a carbonate, a silicate or a metal oxide; and thereafter adding (C) either from 30 to 80 parts by weight of a plasticizer which is an ester of phthalic, benzoic, sebacic or adipic acid, or from 40 to 60 parts by weight of an oil which is a mineral oil, a paraffin oil, a polyhydric alcohol or a mixture thereof. The homogenization of (A) with (B) may be effected in a Z-kneader, rubber kneader or dispersion kneader. The compositions thus prepared are used as components of glazier's putty or jointing compositions. In Examples, (1) a composition of acrylate rubber, silicate filler and benzyl butyl phthalate is made, and is then added to an acrylic dispersion containing chalk, talc and ammonia; (2) a composition of factice, chalk and paraffin oil is made, and is added to a mixture of linseed oil, soyabean fatty acid, cobalt octoate, magnesium aluminium silicate and calcium carbonate, to form a glazier's putty; (3) to (5) a composition of butyl rubber, calcium carbonate and diisopropylene glycol dibenzoate is made, and is added to various one or two-part polysulphide-based mixtures to form jointing compositions.
