Abstract

1423596 Refractory compositions KRUPPKOPPERS GmbH 26 March 1973 [11 April 1972] 14503/73 Heading C1J A muffled oven has its heating walls made of or lined with refractory brick containing 25-95% SiC and produced from a batch containing not more than 10% of a size greater than 0À1 mm., the amount of SiC and a binder being such as to form both a mullite and a vitreous phase. The binder can be obtained from Al 2 O 3 + clay; ZrSiO 4 + Al 2 O 3 ; or ZrSiO 4 + Al 2 O 3 + clay; synthetic mullite or one produced by firing natural rocks. Vitreous forming oxides can also be added if not present in sufficient quantity. A protective coating containing at least 70% ZrSiO 4 and/or corundum, the remainder being a binder with a graded melting range can be applied to the brick. Sulphides and/or thiosulphates can be present in either composition.
