Abstract

1423273 Prostaglandins G D SEARLE & CO 21 Nov 1973 [21 Nov 1972] 53925/73 Heading C2C cis-11,15-Dihydroxy prostaglandins are obtained by the stereoselective reduction of 11- hydroxy-15-keto prostaglandins by contacting, in an aqueous medium, the 11-hydroxy-15-keto prostaglandin with Flavobacterium sp. NRRL B-5641, or with enzymes derived therefrom, and isolating the required cis compound. The examples relate to the production of dl-cis- 11,15 - dihydroxy - 9 - oxoprosta - 8(12),13- dienoic acid, which can be resolved into individual enantiomers by known methods, and which is an intermediate in the production of d,l - 11α, 15(5) - dihydroxy - 9 - oxoprostanoic acid, a compound having hypotensive activity.
