Abstract

1423192 Automatic control of position COMPAGNIE HONEYWELL BULL 29 March 1973 [5 April 1972] 15215/73 Heading G3N A movable part produces signals corresponding to identifiable locations just before the locations are reached and when the signal corresponding to the desired location is generated the drive is stopped. Displacement of the movable part produces four sinusoidal signals A, A, B, B is phase quadrature, the passage of these signals through zero in the positive direction defining the identifiable locations. Pulses J are generated each time the signals are between -S and +S and represent the distance from 4N-E to 4N+E where 4N is the identifiable position. These pulses J are fed to a "difference of address register" into which the desired location is pre-set and when the register content reaches zero a signal is transmitted to speed-control and displacement control devices to stop the motor drive. As this signal is emitted a distance E before the desired position, this can be obtained without overshoot. The system may be used for positioning magnetic track heads.
