1423150 Shearing SCHWERMASCHINENBAU - KOMBINAT ERNST THALMANN MAGDEBURG VEB 23 Oct 1972 48806/72 Heading B3W A shear for cutting rolled material comprises vertically movable upper shear knives 3, 4 on carriers 1, 2 and lower shear knives 7, 8 on carriers 5, 6. The carrier 1 is mounted on a guide lever 16 pivoted to the shear frame at 17 and is slidably mounted in rectilinear guides 2a, 9a; the carrier 2 is slidably engaged in a rocker lever 14 pivoted to the shear frame at 17. A lower arm 14a of the lever 14 constitutes the carrier 6 and the carrier 5 is fixed. The arm 14a rests on a resilient buffer 20 and carries a removable abutment member 19 with its upper face flush with the upper face of the knife 8. When all four knives are present, e.g. for cutting I beams, initial downward movement of the upper knives by crank drive 9-12 brings them into contact with a workpiece supported on the lower knives and further movement of carrier 2 causes the rocker lever to rock and an inclined cut to be made. When the knife 8 is omitted, e.g. for cutting channel sections the abutment member 19 is provided to cause the rocker lever to rock. When only knives 4 and 7 are to be used, e.g. for cutting L-, round or rectangular section profiles, the abutment member 19 is replaced by one with its surface beneath the upper surface of the knife 7 so that a vertical cut is made. Springs 18 connect the carriers 1 and 2 to allow relative movement between the carriers. Figs. 3-6 show alternative mounting of the carriers in the shear frame. The cutting edge of the knives is shaped according to the profile to be sheared.
