Abstract

1422604 Throttle linkages AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT and REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 23 May 1973 [31 May 1972 27 Dec 1972] 24704/73 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A mechanism comprises an element (e.g. a throttle valve actuating lever 4) movable from a rest position, Fig. 1, against a force exerted by a primary return spring 7 acting against a pivotal member 8, which is thereby biased against an abutment 12, a secondary return spring 11 tending to pivot member 8 away from abutment 12 and a lost motion connection 13-16 provided between the element 4 and the member 8 so that the primary spring 7 normally holds member 8 against the abutment 12, but if the primary spring 7 fails, the secondary spring 11 pivots member 8 away from the abutment to take up the lost motion and after the dispositions of the spring 11 and the member 8 to increase the torque exerted by spring 11 on member 8. In another embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the throttle 22 is opened by cable 25 and is normally closed by primary spring 30 wound round reel 24. An opening 40 in a lever 33 together with a finger member 39 on reel 24 form the lost motion device. If spring 30 breaks, lever 33 rotates anti-clockwise to the dot-dash line position to engage member 39 so that a secondary spring 36 biases the throttle valve to its closed position.
