Abstract

1422160 Retractable propulsion unit C W SCOTT 3 April 1973 [25 April 1972 6 June 1972 3 July 1972 31 Oct 1972] 19232/72 26397/72 31083/72 and 50206/72 Headings B7V and B7M A marine propulsion apparatus 11 comprises a casing 12, apertured at 22 and adapted for attachment to hull 10, and leg 24 mounting a propulsion unit 13 for movement through the aperture between a parked position within the casing and an operative position below the hull. The propulsion unit comprises propeller 16, drive shaft 18 and an hydraulic motor within sealed housing 14. The leg carrying the propulsion unit is mounted on rotatable shaft 25 serving as a pivot to swing the unit laterally of the hull between the operative and parked positions. The drive shaft 18 lies parallel to shaft 25 when the propulsion unit is in the parked position. In the embodiment shown trim adjustment is effected by piston arm 43.
