Abstract

1422117 Token-freed apparatus COUNTING INSTRUMENTS Ltd 3 Jan 1973 [4 Jan 1972] 263/72 Heading G4V A fuel dispenser comprises a token receiving station 10, manually operable switch means 16 for the entry of information by the user and comparator means 28 for checking the compatibility of a code or codes read from the token and the manually entered information and controlling the dispenser accordingly. In the embodiment described the token carries a security code (limiting the areas of its use), a pump code (signifying the grade of fuel to be dispensed) and an identity code. The identity number entered by the user includes a pump code and an identity code which may be identical with, complementary to, or differ by a psuedo random sequence from the corresponding codes on the token. Means are provided for establishing the authenticity of the token and to prohibit the use of certain tokens. Details of the amount and grade of fuel dispensed, date, and identity of the user are recorded by a counter, printer or paper tape puncher. The token may carry its information in the form of punched holes or a metallic printed circuit pattern.
