Abstract

1421919 Scarfing nozzles BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 11 March 1974 [21 Dec 1972] 59057/72 Heading F4T A nozzle for a scarfing torch comprises a body 2 adapted to be secured in a conventional three shoulder seat to which cutting oxygen, pre-heat oxygen, and fuel gas, are supplied, the body having a central passage 18 for cutting oxygen, an intermediate sleeve 4 defining a passage 38 for the flow of preheat oxygen, and an outer member 6 forming with sleeve 4 a passage 60 for fuel gas, a gas mixing chamber 28, and a passage or series of passages 62 for the preheat mixture, being provided. Body 2 has three portions 8, 10, 12 adapted to engage seats in a member not shown; with fuel gas, and preheat oxygen being supplied to galleries 14 and 16 respectively, the galleries being connected to chambers 28 and 32 by passages 26 and 30 respectively. Sleeve 4 is coaxially force fitted on a shoulder 34 of body 2 and is located by ribs 36 on the body. Outer member 6 fits on a shoulder 40 of body 2 and makes a gas-tight fit at a joint face 42. The nozzle is fixed in the seat by a nut 44, and a toughened wear ring 66 is brazed to member 6 at the discharge end of the nozzle. A tip mixing chamber 58 arranged close to the outlet face 64 of the nozzle reduces the danger of back-firing.
