1421782 Wrapping BOWATER PACKAGING Ltd 17 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50117/72 Heading B8C Wrapping apparatus for wrapping a blank around for example a catalogue comprises a first conveyer 1 which feeds a catalogue on a blank B past a glue applicator 47, which applies glue to the side edges of a trailing flap of the blanks to a first folding device 51 which folds side flaps of the blank over the top of the catalogue, a second folding device 55 which folds the leading flap of the blank over the catalogue as the catalogue and blank fall off the conveyer on to a support 75, and a pusher 81 to push the partially wrapped catalogue off the support and underneath the lower run 13 of the conveyer to fold the trailing flap of the blank over the top of the catalogue and to press it against the side panels to adhere it thereto. Blanks 24 are supported in a magazine on a roller 23 which can be lowered to bring the bottom blank on to the conveyer 1. The catalogues are fed on a roller conveyer 27 to a gate 39 on a lever 33. When sensors 44 detect a blank the lever pivots to release the front catalogue on to the blank and to cause a pad 41 on the lever to hold the next catalogue. A gate 100 retards the catalogue on the blank until it is correctly aligned. The second folding device comprises a ramp 57 up which the leading flap travels to a stop 59. As the catalogue, optionally pressed down by spring means, moves down an inclined portion 11 of the conveyer 1 the flap pivots about the nose 61 of the device 55 and is pressed down on to the top of the catalogue by a horizontal portion 63 or by an adjustable extension. A conveyer 71 feeds the wrapped catalogue under the conveyer 1 to a device 83 which applies self adhesive tape to the joint between the leading and trailing flaps. A tuck in flap is located at the end of the leading flap and is located beneath the trailing flap. Severing or removing of the tape provides a re-usuable envelope.
