Abstract

1421587 Small arms BENELLI SpA DIVISIONE ARMI 27 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9501/73 Heading F3C An automatic pistol has a fixed barrel, Fig. 1, a cartridge receiver breech 10 having grooves 8 therein, Fig. 4, a recoiling bolt carrier 2, Fig. 1, a bolt 3 having transverse ribs 7, Fig. 6, which co-operate with the grooves 8 of the breech 10, and has a link 4, Fig. 1, having one end received in a cavity 19 formed in the bolt 3 and the other end engaged by an inner surface of the carrier 2 and by a stop element 5 which is coupled to the latter. The bolt 3 is urged towards the breech 10 by a spring 6 which is mounted on a rod 17 located in a housing 15, the latter being attached to the carrier 2. The spring 6 has one end thereof engaging a surface 18 of the breech 10 and the other end engaging a flange of the housing 15. Thus the force of the spring 6 is conveyed to the bolt 3 via the carrier 2 and its stop element 5 and via the link 4. The bolt 3 engages a cartridge case 20 which is in the barrel 1 and has a hole 21, Fig. 7, formed therein to receive a firing pin 13, Fig. 1. On firing the pistol the pin 13 is struck by a hammer 14 to urge it against the cartridge detonator, whereupon explosion of the charge is effected. The inertia of the bolt carrier 2 tends to maintain its position relative to the other parts of the pistol and is assisted by the forces of the spring 6 and the explosive gases, both of which act through the link 4. The bolt is then recoiled by the gases, the ribs 7 are disengaged from the grooves 8, this operation being facilitated by the provision of inclined surfaces 12, 11 at the ribs and grooves respectively, and the cartridge case 20 is ejected. The bolt 3 and its carrier 2 are returned by the spring 6 and a new cartridge is positioned in the barrel 1.
