Abstract

1420797 Rollers PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 19 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972 (2)] 58763/73 Heading B3M [Also in Division F2] A mill roller is heated or cooled by conducting a heat transfer medium through the journals and circumferentially-spaced axially-extending passageways 42, there being means disposed within the passageways for increasing the heat transfer. Such means may include rods 31 and grooves 46 which impart turbulent flow. Each passageway may be fed through radial bores 40, an annulus 49 and a bush 30 which serves as a heat insulator. The end cover 22 may also be thermally isolated by gaskets 28, 29 and provided with sockets 50 for the rods 31. Turbulence in the passageways may also be created by ridges on the rods and the velocity varied by tapering the rods.
