Abstract

1420714 Stereophonic loud-speakers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Feb 1974 05383/74 Headings H4J and H4X A stereophonic loud-speaker system includes a respective loud-speaker 7, 8 handling the upper frequencies of each channel and located near a respective end of an elongate housing, and a third loud-speaker 9 handling the lower frequencies common to both channels and arranged within the housing to radiate from its front and rear through respective vents 11, 12 adjacent the loud-speakers 7, 8. The stated crossover frequency ranges from 400 to 4000 Hz or up to 8000 Hz when used in an automobile. The arrangement is said to improve the subjective stereophonic impression in a confined space. Additional high frequency speakers may be disposed adjacent speakers 7, 8 to handle frequencies above 4-6 kHz.
