Abstract

1420153 Extrusion die adjustment SIEMENS AG 19 April 1973 [21 April 1972] 19209/73 Heading B5A An extrusion die head comprises a pair of projections 13, 14, from a mandrel 3, which each co-operate with an outlet passage 6, 7, of a die 2 either in the formation of an extruded tube or, as shown, as a guide through which an electrical cable is delivered to be coated, e.g. with a crosslinkable thermoplastics, or elastomer, in passing through the passages 6, 7. The concentric alignment of each projection and outlet passage is effected by relative adjustment between the die 2 and mandrel 3 to align one projection and passage, and then by alignment of the other projection and passage by relative adjustment therebetween. The relative adjustment between the die 2 and mandrel 3 may be effected by a pivoted ball joint mounting of the mandrel 3 or, as in the described embodiment, by transverse displacement of the die 2 by screws 10, Fig. 1, with the relative adjustment between the remaining passage 7 and projection 14 being effected by a ball joint mounting 15 of the projection 14, at which it is adjustably pivotable by a hollow rod 16, displaced by screws 17. The mounting 15 is resiliently sprung against the mandrel 3, by cup springs bearing between the rod 16, and an upstream face of a mandrel nose 12, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the Fig. 3 embodiment, the projection 25 is provided with a bore 26 which is eccentric with respect to the axis of a bore 31 in which it is rotatable by a means 32, the bore 31 being in and eccentric with respect to the axis of a rotatable sleeve 30. The projection 25 and sleeve 30 are resiliently sprung against the mandrel by cup springs 34, 33, and the eccentricities of the bores 25, 31 is equal.
