Abstract

1420006 Powder coating compositions HOECHST AG 13 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 12144/73 Heading C3B A powdered coating composition, useful in providing an abradable surface is prepared by plasticising (I) a powdered epoxy resin solid at at 50‹ C., (II) a mixture of a more reactive hardener, inadequate for the complete hardening of I and a less reactive hardener suitable for the complete hardening of I, and (III) pigment and other conventional adjuvants, at a temp. above the melting temperature of I, above the activation temp. of the more reactive hardener, but below the temp. for complete hardening by the mixture (II). The homogenesis mixture thus obtained is then processed (cooled and comminuted) to form a powder coating composition. I may be a diglycidye ether of diphenylolpropane and/or diphenylolmethane. The more reactive hardener (III) may be activated at up to 100‹ C. and the less reactive (IV) at > 150‹ C. III may be a combination of dicyandiamide, an imidazole and an epoxy resin; IV may be dicyandiamide or trimellitic anhydride. The composition may have a maximum grain size of 100 Á. Uses.-Coating car bodies.
