Abstract

1419979 Antistatic polyamides BAYER AG 21 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 59120/72 Heading C3R Polyamides having linear aliphatic amide linkages are rendered antistatic by incorporating 1 to 30 wt. per cent of a polyester amide of recurring statistically distributed recurring units wherein R 3 is a single bond, alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene; R 4 is -O-R 6 -OR 6 is alkylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene; R 7 is H or C 1-4 alkyl; R 9 is C 1-4 alkyl; R 10 is C 2-20 alkylene which may be interrupted by tertiary N; z is 2 to 30; y is 1 to 30, or such a polyamidoester wherein some of the radicals R 4 are replaced by radicals derived from a triol, the polyesteramide having a relative viscosity of 1À0 to 4À0 (1 g./100 ml. m-cresol at 25‹ C.). The polyamides comprise recurring unit or -COR 2 NH- wherein R is a linear or branched C 4-20 alkylene radical; R 1 is a linear or branched alkylene or a 1,4-cyclohexylene radical or a radical and R 2 is a linear or branched C 3-20 alkylene radical. Various diols, diamines, dicarboxylic acids and condensation catalysts for preparing the polyamide ester are mentioned. The use of polyesteramide produced from the secondary diamines HR 9 N-R 10 -NR 9 H is stated to result in a greater reduction of electrical surface resistance than those produced from other diamines. Reference is made to Specification 1,270,097.
