Abstract

1419627 Rotary cultivating machine ROTARY HOES Ltd 3 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 17546/72 Heading A1B A rotary cultivating machine having a driven rotor for carrying cultivating tools is constructed so that the rotor is readily replaceable. The rotor shaft may be in two parts 10 and 11 of different lengths. Each shaft has a coupling member 35 secured to either end by welding 36 and carries pairs of flanges 16 for holding shanks of cultivating blades 17 (Fig. 3) by means of a bolt 18 and abutment member 19. The support means at the transmission end of shaft 10 (Fig. I) consists of a splined stub drive shaft 21 supported in a bearing 23. A drive coupling member 30 having a raised rectangular portion 32 is attached to the drive shaft 21 by screws 29. The welded coupling member 35 of shaft 10 has a channel 33 for sliding over the raised portion 32. A member 38 with bolts 61 and springs 64 (Fig. 3) clamps the shaft 10 to the coupling member 30. The shafts have intermediate support means suspended from plate 14 (Fig. 2) consisting of a bearing 44 carrying the stub shaft 48 with disc-shaped portion 57 to which is splined a coupling disc 45 secured by a bolt 50. Clamping members 38 with bolts 61 and springs 64 secure shaft 10 to disc 45 and shaft 11 to portion 57. Channels 52 and 58 in the coupling members 35 enable the shafts 10 and 11 to be withdrawn past the bolt 50 and projection 59 respectively. Support means at the outer end of shaft 11 (Fig. 3) consists of a stub shaft 63 in a bearing 68 to which the shaft is clamped by the member 38. A channel 65 enables withdrawal of the shaft 11 past the raised portion 66 of the stub shaft 63 when the bolts 61 are released. The bores 40 in all the members 38 are larger than the bolts 61 which in combination with the springs 64 allow the side plates 12 and 13 to flex slightly. The machine frame 9 may be fitted with wheels, skids, or a crumbler roller and a tool bar 79 may be fitted. The invention may be employed with machines having single rotor shafts.
