Abstract
1419602 Spray carburetters FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 8 Nov 1973 [15 Nov 1972] 51833/73 Heading F1B A carburetter comprises an air/fuel induction passage 20, an unbalance mounted choke valve 28 mounted for movement across the passage to control air-flow temperature responsive spring means 60 connected to control the choke valve and first and second heater elements 87, 86 associated with the spring means to heat it to open the choke valve as the temperature rises, the first heater element 87 being operable at all times and the second being operable only above a predetermined ambient temperature. The first heater element has a smaller heat output capacity than the second heater element. The heater elements comprise positive temperature coefficient semi-conductors supplied with current via a terminal 96, the connection to heater 86 being by way of bi-metallic switch 94, which is closed at ambient temperatures above 65F so that in these conditions the choke valve opens more quickly. A hot air passage 68 connects a housing portion 42 of the choke mechanism to, for example, an exhaust manifold. A piston 78 is provided to slightly open the choke valve when the engine starts, as a result of the depression in the induction manifold. By-pass slots are formed around piston 78 to allow air to flow from passage 68 to a passage 80.
