Examples describe the preparation of solutions containing C 2 H 5 AlCl 2 .OH 2 in benzene, or benzene and methyl chloride, and C 2 H 5 AlBr 2 .OH 2 in n-pentane and each containing excess organoaluminium halide using a hydrated metal sulphate as the carrier-water combination. In other examples a solution containing i-C 4 H 8 AlCl 2 .OH 2 and uncomplexed organoaluminium halide in cyclohexane is made by introducing the water through an atomizer and a solution containing (C 2 H 5 ) 1À5 AlCl 1À5 .OH 2 in isopentane is made using humidified nitrogen.
