Abstract

1418485 Removable closures DOVER ENG GROUP Ltd 1 May 1973 [4 May 1972] 20758/72 Heading F2P [Also in Division E1] A removable cover for closing and sealing an opening, e.g. a manhole, has side members 20 each having a planar seating flange 22 with a channel 27 for receiving a sealing member. As shown, the side members 20 are of constant thickness and may be of rolled steel section. A depending ledge 29 protects the seating surface and seal from damage when the cover is placed on the ground. The opening rim has a flange 10 to receive the cover seating flange 22, portions 11, 12 forming a dirt trap 25 and recesses 14, 17 for receiving dowels to connect several such frames together. A further seal may be inserted in the space 25. The internal angle subtended by the arcuate portion 13 may be 270 or 180 degrees (Fig. 2, not shown) or the arcuate recess may be replaced by a rectangular channel (44) (Fig. 4, not shown). The cover can be secured by bolts passing through the flanges 22, 12. Four lifting keyhole devices (106) (Fig. 5, not shown) are welded to the vertical flange 23 of the cover side members 20, the cover being lifted by a key (113) (Figs. 6-8, not shown) which is engaged in one of these devices.
