Abstract

1418010 Gas filter J B THORNE & SON LTD 8 Oct 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 56704/72 Heading BIT [Also in Division B8] An impervious bag 22, which receives solids separated from a gas stream in a filter housing 10, is maintained in an expanded state by suction created in chamber 26 by passage 24, whose end 28 cooperates with the inlet 12 to form an injection or ejection pump. Figs. 2 to 6 (not shown) illustrate alternative forms of passage 24 and its relationship with inlet 12. One filter 16 may be cleaned by periodic shaking or varying the suction applied by fan 42, or several filters in one housing may be successively backwashed while still maintaining a forward flow through inlet 12. Fig. 7 (not shown) illustrates clamping a re-entrantly folded filter between the top of housing 10 and a removable fan unit. The apparatus is used at the discharge end of a pneumatic conveyor for sugar, flour, wood shavings or sawdust.
