1417054 Clyinder locks EATON CORP 5 July 1974 [31 July 1973]36328/73 Heading E2A A key-operable lock comprises in combination a body 10 in which is formed a substantially cylindrical cavity having a longitudinally extending recess 11 in its wall, a hollow substantially cylindrical barrel 13 occupying the cavity and having a longitudinally extending slot in its wall, a longitudinally extending locking bar 14 normally occupying the recess and the slot to prevent relative angular movement between the barrel and the body, means, e.g. a magnet 12, urging the locking bar into the recess, a plurality of disc-like security members 21 disposed within the barrel, stop means for limiting angular movement of each member relative to the barrel, resilient means, such as torsion springs 26, urging each member angularly towards one limit of its permitted angular movement within the barrel, each of said members having a central aperture into which a projection 24 on the member extends in a substantially circumferential direction for engagement within a depression 25 in the side wall of the shank of a key 16, each of the members also having a notch 21b in its periphery which will be aligned with the slot in the barrel when its projection is engaged in a depression of appropriate depth in the key. The arrangement is such that when an appropriate key is correctly inserted through the apertures of all members the projections will all be engaged in depressions of appropriate depth under the influence of the springs to bring the notches of the plurality of members into alignment with the slot in the barrel so that when angular movement is imparted to the key the locking bar will be moved from the recess in the body into a position to be accommodated within the slot in the barrel and the plurality of notches in the plurality of members 21 to enable the barrel and members to be moved angularly relative to the body. As shown, each member 21 is rotatably mounted on the hollow boss 22a of a carrier 22 which is non-rotatably secured in the barrel by a tongue 22b. The depressions in the key may be located on either or both faces of the shank of the key and also on either side of the medial plane of the shank, the notches 21b and projections 24 of the members 21 being appropriately disposed.
