Abstract
1416596 Knitting ELITEX ZAVODY TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI GENERALNI REDITELSTVI 22 Aug 1973 [14 Feb 1973] 39700/73 Headings D1C and D1K The toe of a sock or the like knitted on a two-cylinder knitting machine is closed by holding the body of the article in the upper cylinder, forming a double welt with its end courses held on the needles of the two cylinders so that one cylinder can be rotated relative to the other to twist the welt and bind yarn round it to close it after which the needles in the upper cylinder are transferred to the lower cylinder and a securing course is knitted. The machine has a drive with a clutch so that the cylinders may be rotated relative to one another and to a yarn guide. The clutch comprises a part 16 rotatable with shaft 13 which drives the lower cylinder and controlled from the main cam drum by a linkage so as to engage it with and disengage it from clutch part 17 of gear wheel 18 which drives the gear wheel 19 of the upper cylinder. During knitting, yarn is fed by guide 25 and single jersey is knitted on cylinder 2 after which the needles are divided 1:1 between the upper and lower cylinders.
