Abstract
1416588 Cassette and cassette machine SONY CORP 27 June 1973 [29 June 1972] 30549/73 Heading G5R In a twin reel tape cassette T from which a loop of tape 11 is withdrawn via an opening 10 for, e.g. helical scanning by a rotary magnetic head, the opening is provided with a lid 12 which is formed with cut out portions 30a, 30b through which cassette position registering parts 26a, 26b of the bottom wall of the cassette extend. In the cassette the lid 12 is spring biased to the closed position in which it is locked by latch arrangement 17 and the tape reels are spring biased towards the bottom wall which includes friction material to retain the reels when not in use. Guide slots 36, 36a, 36c provided on the side walls, or raised guides on the top wall, Fig. 13B (not shown), assist in guiding the cassette into a playback machine when it is loaded with the side containing the tape opening leading. Alternatively guides extending in the long dimension of the cassette are provided, Fig. 13A (not shown), when the cassette is loaded in the direction of its length. The cassette T is entered into the playback machine until the parts 26a, 26b on the cassette bottom wall engage parts 70a, 70b on the base 53 of the cassette holder 50. At this time a part 71 also mounted on the base 53 has entered opening 31 in the lid of the cassette to release the lid latching arrangement and as the cassette and holder are then swung downwardly towards the cassette operating position a further part 73 engages an edge of the lid to move it to its open position. The downward swinging movement of the holder is controlled by pivoting arms 60, 61 and is opposed by spring 62. In the operating position the holder is latched by a part 64 thereon engaging a spring loaded member 63 pivoted to the machine base and the cassette is supported on two pillars which enter the apertures 44, 45 and a further pillar which engages the bottom wall surface. As the drive spindles 40a, 40b enter the cassette reel hubs the reels arc lifted out of braking engagement with the friction material on the bottom wall of the cassette.
