Abstract

1416507 Flexible sheeting ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL CORP 12 Sept 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 42923/73 Heading E1K [Also in Division F1] Flexible sheeting, preferably of metal, e.g. stainless steel, for use as a seal 30 between a rocket engine turbine exhaust manifold 32 operating at 800‹F and a fuel manifold 34 at a temperature of -400‹F, or for use in other applications where the sheeting has to be non-porous, cope with vibrations 44, 46, 48 in three directions, and adapt to a large temperature differential, consists of a pattern of spaced, intersecting corrugations 14 of approximately semi-circular cross-section with hemi-spherical domes 20 formed at the intersections to relieve stress along the corrugations. The corrugations preferably extend diagonally to the edges of the seal 30, their height or radius is preferably 6-12 times the thickness of the material, and the longitudinal edges of the corrugations are curved to a radius 3-5 times the thickness of the material. The height of each dome 20 is preferably approximately twice the height of the corrugations and the dome radius is preferably one and a half times the corrugation radius.
