Abstract

1416202 Connecting parts of machines ALFA LAVAL 11 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 17425/73 Heading E2A A machine comprises a frame I and a movable cover 3 to be fastened together and a radially expansible hose 9 disposed between the frame 1 and cover 3. The frame 1 engaging the hose 9 from one side thereof and the cover 3 engaging the hose 9 from the side opposite the one side in such a manner that when expanded the hose 9 applies a locking force to the cover in a direction tending to move the cover towards the frame. As shown the hose 9 sits in a furrow 6 formed in one 1 of the parts and acts between a flange 8 of the one 1 of the parts and a pivoted flap 5 or flaps of the other part 3. The parts 1, 3 form the frame 1 and a cover 3 of a centrifuge, the rotor 2 thereof having a horizontal axis of rotation. The hose 9 may be fed with lubricating oil which is contained in a sump formed in the casing and which is supplied to the hose pipe by a pump driven by the rotor driving means through a one-way valve, a pressure unloading valve being also provided (Fig. 3, not shown). A manometer to indicate failure in the hose 9 pressurization is also provided the manometer, on failure of the pressurization, giving a signal for switching off the centrifuge driving means, the signal being delayed by a relay. Alternatively the pump supplying the hose pipe may be driven independently of the centrifuge (Fig. 4, not shown). Further a separate pressure source, e.g. the water main, may be connected to the hose (Fig. 5, not shown).
