1416020 Cigarette making-machines MOLINS LTD 21 Sept 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 25709/ 75 Divided out of 1416019 Heading A2C A continuous rod machine for making cigarettes with a filler including a core 14 of one particulate material surrounded by an annulus of a second particulate material, of the kind in which the core material is fed onto and along the middle of a layer of second particulate material 12 formed by showering tobacco onto a conveyor 10, is characterised by means for ejecting sections of the core material at regular intervals, means for forming a layer of the second material over the remaining sections of the first material and in the spaces between successive sections, means for tensioning the layer of second material and means for wrapping the continuous rod and cutting it at the positions between the adjacent ends of successive sections of the first material. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, tobacco 12 is showered down a shoot 22 past a rotating knurled roller 45 to fall either side of the wall 44 on to the conveyor 10 whioh is suction backed. The lateral position of the roller 45 is horizontally adjustable to ensure that equal quantities of tobacco pass downwards along opposite sides of the wall. Core material 14 may be fed into the hollow of U sectioned layer 12 as a continuous stream prior to removal of regular spaced sections either by compressed air from pulley 96 or by the combined effect of discontinuous suction through ports and the assistance of centrifugal force at the pulley wheel.
