Abstract

1415688 Laminated metallized-film yarns LUREX BV 6 Nov 1972 50975/72 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions D1 and B2] A laminated metallic yarn includes a reflective metal deposit coated with a layer of an adhesive copolymer comprising at least 75% by weight ethylene and one or more monomers selected from acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and alkyl esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid with 1 to 3 C atoms in the alkyl group. The preferred copolymer is of ethylene and 2 to 15% acrylic acid. As shown, Fig. 1, a dispersion of the copolymer is coated on a metal coating 3 of a web of transparent plastics material 2 which is laminated with a similar web by rollers 14, after drying in oven 12, so that the coating is sandwiched between the metal coatings. The laminate is cut into yarns by device 18. The copolymer may be dispersed in a mixture of perchlorethylene and methyl ethyl ketone. The coating may be in an amount less than 1À5 grams per square metre of metallized yarn. The webs may be of cellulose acetate or polyethyleneterephthalate. The metal coatings may be aluminium, tin, silver, gold, copper and/or alloys, applied by thermal evaporation or spluttering techniques.
