Abstract

1415504 Supply circuits for induction furnaces A P V PARALEC Ltd 22 May 1973 [26 May 1972] 24928/72 Heading H2H A coreless induction furnace having a single inductor coil is operated at a high frequency and power to melt the charge and at a low frequency and power during refining, the furnace having either a single variable frequency source or a plurality of sources producing power at different frequencies, a plurality of power factor correction capacitor units, are associated with each power source in the latter case, and switching means for connecting the coil to selected capacitor units and to the power source. Power is supplied at frequencies in the range 50-10,000 Hz; when two sources only are used, the lower frequency is 50 Hz, the higher 500 Hz. A single frequency source may comprise a rotary type frequency converter or a static thyristor frequency inverter.
