Abstract

1415409 Centrifugal fans H H ROBERTSON CO 5 Feb 1974 [10 Feb 1973] 6663/73 Heading F1C A centrifugal fan assembly comprises an electric motor supported within a housing disposed coaxially within a tubular casing which has an inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end, an impeller driven by the motor at the inlet end, and hollow aerofoil struts supporting the housing within the casing, the inner ends of the struts being connected to and communicating with the interior of the housing and the outer ends being connected to and opening exteriorly of the casing. The casing 13,11, 12 is flanged at 14,15 for insertion in ventilation ducting. Hollow aerofoil struts 23 support the motor housing 20 within the casing part 11 and afford inflow and outflow passages for cooling air circulated over the electric motor 30 by a cooling fan (not shown) located within a cowl 30a. The centrifugal fan impeller 32 is located within the casing part 12 adjacent on inlet cone 16. An outlet fairing 22 may have a perforate metal wall 22a backed by a layer of sound insulating material 22b. Liquid may be conveyed via ducting 41 to the annular gap 43 between a rotating conical member 40 and stationary fairing 42, whence it enters the air-flow as a spray or mist.
