Abstract

1415252 Regulating I C engine liquid and gas fuel supplies SNAMPROGETTI SpA 11 Jan 1973 [14 Jan 1972] 1620/73 Heading F1B An injection pump 4 for delivering gas oil to a diesel engine 1 has a delivery regulating rack 12, and a valve 24 for controlling the delivery of L.P.G. in vapour form to the engine is controlled in conjunction with the rack such that the valve is opened progressively only after the rack has reached a position corresponding to an intermediate engine power output, e.g. 70% of maximum power. The linkage between the accelerator pedal 14 and the rack 12 includes a lost-motion spring device 48 which permits depression of the pedal when further movement of the rack to increase fuel delivery is prevented by a stop operated by a piston 29. The stop blocks further rack movement when the valve 24 begins to open, a plate 46, Fig.3, on the linkage engaging a stop 45 on the valve actuating rod 44 to open the valve. The supply of gas from a tank 15 through a pres sure reducer and engine cooling water heated vaporizer 20 to a Venturi 26 in the engine intake pipe 2 is additionally controlled by a solenoid valve 19 which is opened when a switch 34 is closed and a switch 40 operated by the piston 29 is closed. The switch 40 is closed when the piston 29 is in a rack blocking position due to the supply of air under pressure from a line 30. A solenoid valve 31 in the line 30 is opened when a switch 35 is moved from a position closing the circuit of a warning light 37 to a position closing the solenoid circuit. The solenoid circuit is closed when the engine cooling water is sufficiently heated to evaporate the L.P.G. in the vaporizer 20. The relationship between accelerator pedal depression and movement of the rack 12 and plate 46 may be adjusted by an adjuster 53 which positions a linkage pivot 50.
