Abstract

1415205 Gas burners COMPAGNIE EUROPEENNE POUR L'EQUIPEMENT MENAGER 1 March 1973 [3 March 1972 20 June 1972] 10090/73 Heading F4T A device for controlling a gas burner B comprises an energy regulator RE for connection to an electrical supply and arranged to provide at intervals an electrical output, an electrically operated control valve EV 2 actuated by regulator RE for supplying gas to the burner, an electrically operated pilot V, time delay means RT arranged to prevent opening of valve EV 2 for a predetermined time after the pilot has been operated, and a safety device ISM, responsive to the temperature of the pilot and arranged to close valve EV 2 whenever the pilot temperature is less than a predetermined value. Regulator RE comprises a bipolar or single-pole on/off switch incorporating a bimetallic strip bi, and resistor, and is adjustable by a knob M. Burner and pilot fuel valves EV 2 , EV 1 are solenoid valves. Safety device ISM is a mercury type switch having a tank S heated by the pilot. In operation, regulator RE is set and current is supplied to coil 1 of valve EV 1 through a contact R 1 of time delay relay RT. Pilot V is lighted through a spark generator G fed through a break contact R 2 of switch ISM, and tank S is heated so as to make contacts T 2 , T 3 , and thus continue to actuate coil 1 without using relay RT, and also cuts off the current to generator G. Delay relay RT comes into operation and makes contact T 1 to actuate coil 2 which opens fuel supply valve EV 2 to the burner, which is now lit by the pilot. After a time period, strip bi is operated to actuate coil 2 so that valve EV 2 is closed and the burner is extinguished. The burner can be stopped completely by knob M. Indicator lights L 1 , L 2 are provided for warning when the generator G is being operated, and pilot V is extinguished. In a modification, a thermostat (Th1) Fig. 2 (not shown), is provided in the circuit to valve EV 2 and detects the temperature of the article being heated by the burner.
