Abstract

GORNOGO DELA IMENI A A SKOCHINSKOGO 21 Feb 1973 8550/73 Heading F3A A flat detonating cord comprises a band 1, Fig. 1, of explosive material and a layer 2 of reinforcing material. The reinforcing layer is made of glass fibre, textile cord, celluloid or any other material exhibiting specific elongation which is smaller than that of the band of explosive. To enable the cord to be attached to explosive charges, workpieces or further lengths of cord, it is provided with a layer 6 of adhesive protected by a removable layer 9, e.g. of silicone paper. Heat resistant lacquer 11 protects the sides of a reel of the cord. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) two insulated electric conductors (12) having the same ultimate specific elongation as the explosive band extend longitudinally through the band to ensure its integrity, but rupture if the band ruptures to register the breakage. Adhesive material is applied at spaced intervals along the band and is left partly exposed so as to prevent spontaneous unwinding of a reel of the cord. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, holes 4 in a layer 3 of reinforcing material are filled with explosive and communicate detonation from one explosive band 5 to the other if a damaged area is encountered in one of the bands. A spring clip (15), Fig. 4, not shown, or adhesive tape, can be used to join two lengths of the cord together if they are not provided with adhesive layers.
