Abstract

1415171 Valves R W WINTER 17 Jan 1973 [20 June 1972] 2816/72 Heading F2V In a rotary plug valve flow through an orifice 12 is controlled by the helical end-face of a parthollow conical plug. The orifice may be circular, rectangular, trapezoidal, triangular or any other shape which, on the rotation of the plug, is reduced in length (circumferential) as well as width (axial). The plug is made of resilient plastics material and a tight fit in the casing is achieved by providing an axial groove 30, the edges of which can move together when the plug is inserted in the casing. The plug is retained in the casing has a pin 31 co-acting with a groove 33. 0-rings 34 seal the plug to the casing. The plug, which is rotated by a handle 26, is provided with an abutment 28 co-operating with an abutment 29 on the casing to stop further rotation at the position corresponding to maximum and minimum flow.
