Abstract
1414427 Endless conveyers TOBY ENTERPRISES 6 June 1973 27002/73 Heading B8A An accumulating and distributing mechanism for correcting for random fluctuations in the delivery of objects to an object demanding mechanism from an object supplying mechanism comprises a pair of intersecting conveyers, means for detecting a space greater than a predetermined space between successive objects on the first conveyer and means responsive to such detection to move the point of intersection of the conveyers in the direction of flow of the objects. In Fig. 1, stacks of meat slices are delivered from slicer 13 to first conveyer 18 which comprises a plurality of chains 28 (Fig. 2). Second conveyer 19 comprising a plurality of chains 32 (Fig. 2) intersects conveyer 18 at a point of intersection formed by guide rollers mounted on a carriage 37 which is movable along the path of the conveyers by a chain loop 99 (Fig. 2) driven by motor 57 which also drives the conveyers by means of chains and sprockets. A gap between successive stacks is detected by detector 129 on carriage 37 and this causes the carriage drive to be connected to the motor so that the carriage and hence the point of intersection " follows " the last stack at the predetermined spacing. Meanwhile conveyer 18 is driven at twice the speed of conveyer 19 and carriage 37 until the next stack on conveyer 18 arrives at the point of intersection, when the stack is transferred to conveyer 19, and carriage 37 moves against the direction of flow until it is the predetermined distance behind the stack which has just been transferred, in order to correct for the next gap in the flow. Stacks are discharged singly to a packaging machine, entry to the drop zone being controlled by detector 127 which stops conveyer 19 if the packaging machine is not ready for delivery of a stack. Rollers mounted in pairs on tubular supports (see Fig. 2) receive a stack, the supports rotate downwards through 90 degrees and the stack drops through the gap so formed to a receiving station of the packaging machine.
