Abstract

1414320 Venting moulds M LADNEY JNR 20 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 58712/72 Heading B5A The cover 14 of an aluminium or steel mould 10 includes at least one vent passageway 50a or 50b defined by a plastics vent insert 44. The insert 44 is injection moulded or extruded with a blind passageway 50, afterwards tooled to size, from acetal, polyethylene or polypropylene, and is pressed into an opening through the cover 14. The vent passageway is tapered in either direction, or of uniform diameter (see 50a, 50b, Fig. 1, (50c), (50d), Figs. 2, 3, not reproduced). Moulding.-The mould base 12 is lined with polyethylene or polypropylene sheeting 26 and the cover 14 hinged shut. Plastics is inserted through an inlet 36, which is then plugged (or, plastics is placed before closing the mould). On foaming, gases and excess foam escape through the vent or vents 50a or 50b. The excess foam stems 58a, 58b are peeled off the moulded article 25 while in the closed mould, aided by a vent protrusion 62 or narrow orifice 52b, or are trimmed after article removal from the mould.
