1414205 Cylinder locks GOH HIOW LEE 25 Feb 1975 53458/73 Heading E2A A cylinder lock comprises a hollow cylindrical case I with a longitudinal groove 2 on its inner surface, a locking member 3 rotatable within the case and provided with two longitudinal slots 5, 6 opposite one another, a stack of discs 7 individually rotatable within the member 3 and each having a partcircular slot 8 therein and a semi-circular notch 9 in its periphery, and a semi-cylindrical locking bar 13 adapted to lie in the slot 5 in the member 3 whereby the bar will lie in the slot 5 and the groove 2 when the notches 9 in the discs are not aligned thus preventing relative rotation between the case 1 and the member 3, and whereby alignment of the notches with the slot 5 allows the bar to move into the aligned notches, Fig. 3b, to prevent relative rotation between the stack of discs and the member 3 and to allow rotation thereof relative to the case. As shown, the discs 7 are interleaved with spring discs 10 provided with notches 11 and tongues 12 which extend into the slot 6 of the member 3, the slots 8 in the discs being semi-circular for the reception of a straight-backed key 14 having part-circular prongs 15 of various lengths. A latch tongue 4 is secured to the locking member 3. Turning of the key causes turning of each disc depending on the length of the respective prong of the key operating on the disc whereby the notches are aligned and moved to the slot 5 in the member 3. The bar 13 may be spring-biassed towards the discs and means may be provided whereby each disc is rotated by a limited amount relative to the member 3.
