1413626 Open pan sintering apparatus BASSE-SAMBRE SOC ANON ETUDES RECHERCHES ET ENTREPRISES 1 Feb 1973 [1 Feb 1972] 5192/73 Heading F4B Open pan apparatus, e.g. for sintering ores has a number of pans connected as a chain to pass in turn over a suction box 16 adapted to draw air through a mixture of fuel and ore in the pan. A seal is provided between each pan and the suction box by sealing plates 17 mounted in grooves on each side of the pan, hanging freely on pins 19. During the return travel on the lower run of the chain the sealing plates may become jammed in the grooves by grit and electromagnets are provided upstream of the suction box to pull them downwards so that they can perform their proper function. The magnets have cores 23, coils 24 and polepieces 25. The magnets are not energized if the sealing plates are properly in contact with slide paths 21 before arriving at the suction box.
