Abstract

1413359 Thermostabilized acrylonitrile polymer solutions HOECHST AG 20 March 1973 [20 March 1972 6 Feb 1973] 13354/73 Heading C3P Solutions of acrylonitrile polymers in an organic solvent, are thermostabilized by adding to the solvent, before or after the addition of the polymer, up to 4 wt. per cent (based on the polymer) of at least one cyanoethyl phosphine of the formula wherein R is hydrogen, a C 1-10 alkyl group or a cyanoethyl group. Preferred phosphines are bis- and/or tris(2-cyano ethyl)phosphine, and n - hexyl - bis - (2 - cyano ethyl)phosphine. If the solution contains basic impurities, an amount of 0À01 to 0À1 wt. per cent of tris(oxymethyl)phosphine (based on the polymer) may be present as well. In the examples, solutions of acrylonitrile/methyl acrylate/sodium methallyl sulphonate copolymers in dimethyl formamide are stabilized. The solutions are normally used to produce fibres, filaments or films.
