Abstract

1413332 Laminated plastics film UNILEVER Ltd 27 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 49651/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] Laminated plastics film useful in the packaging of foodstuffs comprises a 6-20 micron thick layer of vinylidene chloride homo- or copolymer bonded between two layers of olefin polymer or copolymer each at least 20 microns thick, by means of a two-component polyurethane primer or adhesive. The polyolefin layers may be of low-pressure polyethylene, polypropylene, or copolymers thereof, optionally together with some polyisobutylene, and may be flame or corona treated prior to bonding. A hot-press-resistant layer of unstretched or uniaxially or biaxially stretched polyamide, polycarbonate, PVC or polyethyleneterephthalate, or a polyurethane or epoxy lacquer, may be applied over one of the polyolefin layers, optionally by means of an adhesive. The laminate may be prepared by applying polyurethane adhesive by brush or roller to a polyolefin film, then applying a plurality of coats of an aqueous dispersion of polyvinylidene chloride, and finally bonding with the other polyolefin film to which the adhesive has also been applied.
