Abstract

1413069 Sheet sensing devices in electrographic machines XEROX CORP 10 July 1973 [11 July 1972] 32862/73 Heading B8R [Also in Division G2] Sheets of paper, which have failed to be removed from a photoconductive belt 12 after transfer of a developed image therefrom, are detected by a photosensitive device 302 connected to a logic circuit 40 which both starts a pre-set timer 41 and energizes a rotary solenoid 303 that rotates a sheet deflector 306 to the position shown in dashed lines where it intercepts the sheet and guides it along a removal path towards a conveyer belt 32 leading to the fuser (not shown). The deflected sheet contacts an arm 310 of a micro switch 31 connected to logic circuit 40 that cancels the timer 41 and allows the machine to continue to run for a pre-set time long enough for the sheet to exit from the machine. Non-cancellation of the timer 41, due to the sheet not having been deflected, allows it to actuate the terminating device to stop the machine after the pre-set time which is slightly longer than that required for a deflected sheet to reach and actuate the switch arm 310. The machine may include a pressure sensing device in the suction extraction system connected to the cleaning brush housing 261, in case the sheet detecting or deflecting mechanism fails, which will detect any change of air pressure caused by a sheet being transported into the housing 261 and use the detection signal to immediately actuate the machine terminating device.
